Some good observations on blogging - there's a reason I always write in my name, gives me control: In a Google-Indexed Universe where the lines between online and offline lives are blurred, you don't have to fill in all of the blanks.

I grew up on Marvel comics, from the stuff I bought in the store at Butlins aged 5 through to the Transformers when I was 10 to the X Men when I fell for Psylocke. But comics take loads of money. They're doing The Avengers. Properly. Woo Hoo!

What it's like being part of a gay couple, even in supposedly liberal, civilised areas, still. From Debi, comes with a challenge I doubt I could manage at all: Spend an entire week pretending that you're not a couple.

And in good news for those of us still using the place, Facebook has woken up to the application spam problem and given many many ways to fix it. I reject almost all invites out of hand these days, I never did want to be a bloody vampire thankee muchly, and I definitely don't want to find out how gay I am. Of course, that half of the apps are made by data miners, spammers and arseholes makes me even more cautious, I'll stick to the ones that are actually useful. Or made by people I trust.
Meh, rambling. The rest of these I got from random people and don't appear to have saved who from, bit of a backlog. Long term readers will know I tend to like remakes, re-imaginings and new versions of old classics, so that they're redoing The Day the Earth Stood Still could be a good thing. Except they've cast Keanu as Klaatu. All aboard the failboat now? I don't recall ever seeing that boy act. Ah well. Indiana Jones IV: I need a pension is on its way, I'm looking forward to it, but it appears I need a companion, any volunteers? Jennie thinks, and I quote, that

requiem2adream posted a YouTube parody of the PC/Mac adds where it's DC/Marvel, and it amused me, lots. She also linked to the whole series of them. So I watched them. One after another. All evening. I chuckled. Lots. Toy superheroes arguing over their movie deals. Then they went to the bar.( Part one-Starring Hulk as the bouncer! )

Of course, one of the things I should have been reading today waas the membership pack I received in the post for the British Humanist Association. I joined it last week after a discussion at
bagrec's (about the point that about 50% of Britain appear to actually be atheist by inclination) reminded me of my decision to do so when next I had some cash, I was prompted to when Linda Smith died and I found out she'd been their president.Reading through the literature, I might find out more about becoming an Officiant. linkfrenzy's post. As it it, I read more than a couple links. Maybe not managing to sleep/keep food down for three days has an advantage? Not one I want to repeat soon, anyway.
The only comic I buy regularly these days is 2000ad. It's British, it's normally well written, it's grown up with its reader base ( ... ), and it's an anthology.The advantage of an anthology comic is that there's always something you like( ... ), there's always something I like, even if it's just one little story in an issue full of dross. With the current arcs, I'm a bit meh ( about most of them ). But Malone? Who cares? It's the denouement today, the final installment, it's even on the cover. Meh, says I, but buys it anyway.
Y'see, Malone is the story of an amnesiac drifter ( ... ) So far, so dull. Last week, at the end, a character shows up at the door who knows who he really is. The art is pretty poor, but it was a character that looked vaguely familiar. Meh, says I, I still care not, it's a crap strip, move on.
This week? I read it through, again, as I always do on Wednesday lunchtime. The guy introduces himself as ( Spoiler ). My memory refuses to tell me who that is. I turn the page, still not caring. I turn the page to the next panel, he's going to say who Malone is, I'm hoping it might pique my interest. Speech bubble. "Your name is ( Spoiler - it's a big one )". Interest piqued. More than piqued.
Oh boy did that get my attention
It's no longer a Malone story. It's no longer a story abot an obscure backwater colony world. It's about ( Spoiler ). It's about ( Spoiler ). It's about what happened. It's cool. Crappy story about a character I didn't care about? It was until today.The art's still crap though( ... )
