My Firefox plugins

Completely unsorted unformatted list from my extension list dumper, I'll probably go back and edit this into something more coherent later but I need the data posted somewhere so here it is:

Those marked disabled don't work (yet) with Firefox 3—hopefully they will when it comes out of beta.

Surprised you don't have Firebug.

I prefer IE Tab to IE View - I find it easier flipping between two different renderings on different tabs rather than between apps with different amounts of stuff at the top.

You have a number of tab-related plugins that provide functionality available in Tab Mix Plus (which works with Fx 3), such as Undo Closed Tabs button. (It's not added by default, you have to go to Customise and drag it somewhere if you want it. Admittedly Fx3 has a menu at the bottom of History anyway, but I prefer the button or menu from Tab Mix Plus). Certainly Tab Mix Plus is the add-on I miss most when I use someone else's Firefox.

Haven't got Firebug because this is theoretically my work PC and I do developer stuff on my personal machine.

In reality, I've not really used my personal machine for ages but Web Developer does all I need. It'll likely be installed on the new one as that's much more powerful.

SB has also recommended Tab Mix Plus instead of several of the above—I think I tried it once and went with a different plugin, no idea why, possibly I wanted to replicate something in Mozilla when I switched but it was years back.

Ah, I'm the other way round work/personal wise. Firebug's great for sorting out Ajax issues and I don't tend to do any of that stuff at home.

Tab Mix Plus is great, but it does need tweaking about with - I can well see how an initial impression could be underwhelming.

I'm a marketer by trade and an occasional developer by inclination—I mostly play with stuff so I know how to talk to developers, not because I'm actually any good at it.

Having been trawling, I do like the look of FEBE/Chloe found from the below lifehacker link—set up an XPI for all your most used extensions, with settings, and thus have as many profiles as you want to test stuff in, which I may like—have a personal profile and a design one, so I don't get clashes &c.

You know that most of these plugins probably do work, but that they are prevented from working because the 'max versions' value in their install.rdf files is set to an old version of firefox?

For example, the Tab To Window plugin. Right-click download it, open the .xpi file in 7zip, right-click edit the install.rdf file. Look for , then look for 3.0b3. Edit 3.0b3 to read 3.* Save and exit the file, update the archive when prompted, then open the .xpi with Firefox.

Voila, working plugin. Cool eh?

Lifehacker also recommend using the Nightly Tester tools add-on which allows you to make all plugins compatible with Firefox 3.

I have Firefox 3 portable but I'll stick it out until the final version is released before completely replacing FF2.

Yeah, just hadn't got around to it as I only installed Fx3 last week and I knew the new machine was on the way. I might use some of the stuff Jim's linked to as well, so much stuff out there.

I gave in and installed Firefox 3 RC1 today over the version 2. I'm glad for doing it as on the Mac there were many non-PC bugs and things slowing it down that I no longer experience.

After upgrading, I ganked some of the plugins you had listed. What do you use the LJ addons for? It felt a bit too bulky to have sat there in the browser for my liking.

Also, do you make all your posts with Deepest Sender?

No, I don't always use Deepest Sender, it depends on whether I want to do a lot of links with quotes, or whether I want a lot of formatting, in which case ljaddons makes the LJ post page better.

I've gone into addons and heavily modded and added to the insets page (I plan to put a copy of the export file up somewhere at some point). Basically, any site that allows you to format text (bb code, LJ comments, etc) can benefit from the insets, so I use them a lot—my regular footnote style linking up and back? Two insets with some custom code. I also like pasting in preformatted text with q or blockquote tags, etc.

You can turn off lots of it, and yes, it is a bit bulky, but I get so much use out of it it's worth it.
